Closing Our Door!

Hello everyone! At this time we are sad to say The Country Corner is closing it's doors! This past year business has slowed to the point that supporting our local producers has become too difficult for us to continue our fair trade local venture. Thank you to all who have supported The country Corner and it's farmers. We managed to put over $68,000 into the local economy in less than three years and brought an awareness to our local community in the importance to shop local. We are truly all connected here in the Kawartha's with a depth in agriculture like nowhere else. Please continue to support our farms at the Peterborough Farmers Market

Think Twice About Bio-Based Fuels!

There is a ever growing movement towards generating new fuels made from corn. In the beginning it sounded to good to be true. A re-newable source of fuel from plants so now we can grow our energy needs. Now on a small scale this is great maybe a major breakthrough for science but on a scale required in today's world our planets resources cannot handle the load we would put upon it. Major farms who used to produce food will now convert to production for fuel due to the rise in commodity prices. In return you are already paying higher prices for certain foods or feeds. More rainforest's will be cleared and habitats will be lost for ever. Even possibly the cures for many diseases.

If we continue to develop more farms for fuel we will have a global crisis bigger than what we are seeing to day. The worlds population continues to grow and the shortages for basic food needs are already upon us as we have seen recently where many people could not even get rice. If bio-based fuels continue to be a focus as to solving some of our energy problems we and our humanity will have to face a very serious decision in the near future. Put food on your table or put fuel in your car!!!
